02 January

Our South-African co-production The Wound is one of the last nine films in the race for an Academy Award in the Foreign Language category. The Wound is directed by John Trengove, written by John Trengove, Thando Mgqolozana and Malusi Bengu and produced by Urucu Media. The Director of Photography is the Dutch Paul Özgür.

Earlier this year The Wound premiered at Sundance Film Festival and was the opening film of the Panorama Section at the Berlin Film Festival.
The Wound tells the story Xolani, a lonely Xhosa factory worker who joins the men of his community in the mountains of the Eastern Cape to initiate a group of teenage boys into manhood. When a defiant initiate from the city discovers his best kept secret, Xolani’s entire existence begins to unravel.

By the end of January we will find out if The Wound will be nominated for an Oscar. The 90th Oscars take place on March 4th 2018 in Los Angeles.
